BL4SEA — Remote Verification for Vessel Crews

Project background 

Overview

A consortium of shipping companies and oil stations in Norway required a fully integrated inspection system to streamline and enhance their inspection processes. The system needed to support onshore and offshore operations, enabling vessel crews to conduct inspections and auditors to review and certify reports remotely.

• Develop a robust and scalable system that supports onshore and offshore inspection operations.
• Enable vessel crews to conduct inspections in offline mode and synchronize data with the central server via satellite.
• Provide auditors with comprehensive tools to collect, review, and submit inspection data for state certification without field trips.
• Ensure data security and integrity during transmission and storage.

Challenges

• Developing an offline-capable iPad application for vessel crews to conduct inspections at sea.
• Creating secure and reliable data synchronization between vessel servers and the onshore server via satellite.

Our approach

Solution

Our approach was centered around creating a secure, user-friendly, and efficient system that could handle the complex requirements of shipping and oil station inspections. We used agile methodologies to ensure flexibility and regular feedback from the client throughout the project lifecycle. We developed a fully integrated inspection system that includes an onshore server, vessel servers, and an iPad application. The system supports offline inspections, data synchronization via satellite, and comprehensive data collection and reporting tools.

Team

The project team consisted of a project manager, backend, frontend developers, UI/UX designer, QA engineer, security specialist and DevOps engineer.

Results

The BL4SEA system was successfully implemented, providing a robust solution for shipping companies and oil stations in Norway. The system streamlined the inspection process, reduced the need for field trips, and ensured compliance with state certification requirements.

Achievements:

• Successfully deployed in over 50 vessels and oil platforms within the first year.
